BACKGROUND
Me. Al-Assad Peeroo went to Royal College, Port-Louis, and later attended Sligo Grammar School in Ireland. He completed his A-Levels in Mauritius, in addition to holding an Irish academic certificate. He obtained his LL.B. from Cardiff Law School, followed by professional bar training at the University of Law (UK).
He completed his pupillage under eminent members of the Bar, including Me Razack Peeroo SC, Me Kader Bhayat SC, Sir Hamid Moollan QC, and Me Subhash Lallah SC. He was called to the Mauritian Bar in 2004.
Me. Peeroo has since appeared in numerous Supreme Court matters, served as counsel for the Municipal Council of Curepipe and semi-government bodies such as the SPDC and maintains an active private criminal and civil practice. He has represented public officials, political figures, and has actively advocated for press freedom and constitutional rights.

Me. Al-Assad Peeroo was a political candidate for the PMSD in the 2019 general elections and was actively involved in public engagements and political discourse, addressing large public gatherings, including meetings attended by over fifty thousand people.
He continues to engage in public speaking and civic advocacy to this day.
More recently, Me. Peeroo has publicly spoken out on issues of international humanitarian law, notably concerning the Genocide in Gaza, Palestine. He became the first Mauritian lawyer to join a coalition of over 500 international legal practitioners, including Gilles Devers, in supporting proceedings before the International Criminal Court, seeking accountability under international law for alleged war crimes and acts of genocide.

Al-Assad Peeroo were retained by the Accused, where in 2010, the Accused was arrested at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport following the seizure of €28,800 and Rs 43,550 from his travel bag, and subsequently Rs 285,000 from his residence, leading to two charges of money-laundering before the Intermediate Court, to which he pleaded not guilty.
